Analogies in Digital Marketing

Customer Value Journey and Maslow's hierarchy of needs:

Doing business is totally about meeting the people's needs through products and services and understanding the customer value journey is of utmost importance.

The customer value journey is the guidance map for designing the digital marketing strategy. A prospect has to walk through the step-by-step journey of customer value journey to turn from strangers into raving fans.

Meeting the needs of a prospect while traveling through the customer value journey, is similar to satisfying Maslow's hierarchy of needs, which is a motivational theory in psychology comprising a five-tier model of human needs depicted by a pyramid.

At the bottom of the pyramid lies the physiological needs (food and clothing), followed by safety needs (job security), then comes love and belonging needs (friendship), later are esteem needs, and at top of the pyramid lies self-actualization needs.  The needs at the bottom of the hierarchy must be met by the individuals before moving to the next level.

Similarly, the prospect has to go through each step of the customer value journey without missing out to become a life-long customer.

Physiological needs -Aware and Engage

At the bottom of Maslow's hierarchy lies the physiological needs like food, air, water, clothing, and shelter meant for the basic survival of the individual. Similarly, at the Aware stage of customer value journey, we meet the basic needs of prospects by creating awareness of the problem and being present on their radar through blog posts, social media, etc.

The Engage stage of customer value journey facilitates the involvement of prospects to feel the warmth of the brand through an ongoing conversation on multiple channels like a blog, online community, email, customer support, etc.

Safety needs- Subscribe and Convert

After basic survival is guaranteed by fulfilling physiological needs, the safety needs come next. People tend to strive for a sense of control, order, and predictability with life for which they need employment / business and property for financial security, society for social well-being, law and order, health for personal security.

At the Subscribe stage of customer value journey, prospects start liking your brand and a sense of security is built with trust as the foundation. In light of this newly established trust, you can request the prospect a small commitment to subscribe and give permission to send emails to them in return for something valuable that makes it worth their while. The digital marketing resources could be a free report, checklists, free trial, free samples, guides, etc.

You need to mend the iron when it's hot, same with converting the prospect to a customer. Immediately after subscribing when the trust is still fresh and the prospects are eager to deepen their commitment, make an entry-point offer a high-value, low-risk offer. This entry-point offer is intended only for a smooth transition from subscriber to paid customer not to make a profit.

Love and belonging needs- Excite and Ascend

Once physiological and safety needs have been satisfied humans look for love and belonging needs desiring intimacy, trust, acceptance, receiving and giving love and affection through family and friends.

At the Excite stage of customer value journey, we bank on the dopamine surge stimulated by the new purchase. We show them love, by giving the new customer a memorable experience. It can be by giving a quick start guide, a tour of the website, offering them bonus features which can surprise and delight giving them quick wins.

When the customer feels delighted and has a sense of belonging we progress to the Ascend stage of customer value journey, encouraging them to make repeat buys and simple upsells. As you show love to your customers by serving them well with bigger better solutions or "done for you" add ons they love you in return by availing those services. This stage is intended to make profits.

Esteem Needs- Advocate

At the fourth level of Maslow’s hierarchy lies Esteem needs which fall into two categories:

  1. Esteem for oneself - by achieving a level of dignity, achievement, level of mastery, and absolute independence.

  2. Desire respect from others by gaining status and prestige. After ascension and repeat transactions you may have many happy customers who fulfilled their needs and are experiencing a sense of achievement. These happy customers would love to share their experiences with others but will need some encouragement or push to do so.

At the Advocate stage of customer value journey, you ask them to write a review or share on social media posts, once they finish doing it they become more loyal to your brand. If your brand is a well-known brand it gives a sense of status and prestige to your customers eg. Apple brand customers.

Self-actualization needs - Promote

At the peak of Maslow's hierarchy pyramid lies self-actualization needs. It refers to the realization of one's true potential, self-fulfillment, and seeking personal growth.

By the time the customers reach the Promotion stage in the customer value journey, move from the passive promotion till then to the active promotion stage where they can actively spread the word about your brand. This is where they realize their potential, the knack of brand promotion by promoting your products and achieve personal growth by becoming your affiliate to send new customers your way through making recommendations or sharing offers. The promotion stage is a win-win for the customer and you.

Conclusion:

Digital marketing is all about driving customers to move along the customer value journey as fast as they can. One tactic can't do the trick, you need a seamless digital marketing strategy to meet numerous needs at each stage of the journey and consistent efforts in optimizing it to convert more strangers into raving fans.

Why is Content Marketing important for Easy sales?

How many times are you irritated when advertisements run on TV?

Same as YouTube?

Advertisements are intruders, unwanted guests. Nobody likes it.

Nobody reads  newspapers for advertisements.

No one searches on YouTube for watching advertisements.

Advertisements are forced feeding.

That's why people get irritated and try to run away.

In TV, when advertisements start, people may go to the kitchen and ensure the water level of the rice, dish in the pressure cooker or do other essential kitchen work during the advertisement time.

When the interested program starts, people quickly return back …

Content is the crowd-puller.

Advertisement is the crowd killer

People read newspapers and watch TV for content only.

People seek valuable and relevant information that can improve their life.

A Good TV program always has informative or entertainment contents.

But advertisement is the revenue puller.

Without advertisement, publishing companies cannot run their business.

What is the solution?

Here content marketing comes into play.

What is Content Marketing?

Content marketing is a form of a strategic marketing approach focussed on creating publishing and distributing valuable and relevant content to attract and retain targeted audiences.

(Example of content - News in a news paper, words inside a book..)

Great ,valuable contents always attract people.

People search for useful contents on google.

Content is everywhere.

However, purposeful and  strategic  creation of content is  content marketing.

9A product or service can be sold by using the method of content marketing.

T-ake a product of homemade cake.

A blog or youtube channel can be created for this purpose.

An appealing blog can be created about the benefit of homemade cake.

Why is homemade cake popular ?

Why is homemade cake available with less price?

Why do people prefer homemade cakes over branded companies?

How to make homemade cake ?

Start writing about home made cakes consistently.

The interested people consider the writer an authority in the field.

If you have written book, then the brand value of the writer  will be multiplied into

10 times.

Collect email leads and nurture the leads with help of email marketing tools (Like

 convertkit.com)

First time visitor is a cold lead .

Nurture the leads with continuous articles ( content) and turn into a warm lead.

Invite the warm leads for a webinar .

These leads are highly potential to turn into a hot lead and end up with a paid

customer.

Here, there is no forced advertisement.

No hate for advertisement.

People buy happily without any resistance.

This kind of selling is called natural selling.

Same model can be applied in YouTube channel also

Personal branding is first.

Attention , Authority , Trust & Sales are the step by step process in content

marketing. Nobody will buy from anybody without trust.

A properly set up webinar series  can also be  created  for all selling elements.

People like to buy from people.

Without human touch , sales can not be accelerated.

You can sell groceries or some other less value items without human involvement.

Costly, valued, prestigious items can  be sold only with the help of human support.

Words of month is a great marketing model.

A product sells itself.

So make sure the product gives an amazing experience  to the customer.

Satisfied customer  will become the  automatic ambassador of the product or service.

A happy customer can bring 10 more customers.

However, an unhappy customer can throw away 100 potential customers by doing negative reviews.

Content marketing can help to reach more people and help for more sales without  any  friction.

All kinds of marketing including content marketing to help the people to find out the product  and service.

Always provide  excellent product or service to the customer.

If the product or service is bad , all marketing experts are  helpless.

A good marketing will quickly kill the bad product  and  help to wind up the company soon.

When Marketing Starts?

There is a common misconception that marketing starts after the creation of the

product .

Some people make the product first without  doing any marketing research.

At last lost all money and started to blame the economic condition or the unfavorable potion of the stars.

Marketing really starts before the creation of the product .

Firstly check whether the market wants this product or service ?

Do enough market research. Test research.

Make sure the product is really needed for the market.

Once it is found that the product is really fit for  the market , then there is no chance of failure.

It can be elaborated with an example.

Story of Ms. Vaishali?

Ms  Vaisali  created an online course ( How to Boost Productivity in Jobs )  after the hard work of six month.

Spent nearly one lakh hard earned money for the creation of the program.

Ms. Vaisali  started advertising on facebook & google.

Arranged webinar series. Within a few weeks , all hopes were  shattered.

No takers for course.

No attendees for webinars.

With a lot of disappointment , Ms Vaishali  left the online training business and  returned back to her old  job.

What mistake did Vaishali make?

Started a course without knowing the market need.

Start selling without creating a personal brand.

Who is Vaishali?

Nobody knows.

Why should people care about Vashali ?

No answer.

People never buy  costly programs from a  stranger or unknown person.

Authority and trust have  bigger roles in  selling.

Without knowing the market, starting the business is like jumping into water

without knowing swimming.

Key Takeaway in Digital Marketing

Platforms that work in Digital Marketing

There are so many platforms to leverage in your digital marketing journey. I will jot down a few, start with the giant Facebook, then allocate your content on instagram, if your target audience is B2B then target LinkedIn, Create a youtube channel to let people know about your services, integrate Email marketing into your business to nurture your prospects and customize accordingly.

Free Vs Paid

Gigs need not always be paid through dollars. Other currencies of payment are testimonials, shout-outs, referrals. Whenever you offer free services or products, you must have upsell options for those who want more and are ready to trade their money for more ways to experience your products / services. This has become a default marketing strategy.

The other related market trend noticed is the use of long form, detailed landing pages for free products / services. As this is often the first introduction and taste the client is getting about you, your brand and your company, make the most of this opportunity to build trust and confidence that you are the best person who can help them.

A long form landing page has a picture of brand person, some text and a quick Call to Action (CTA) button above the fold (for those who already trust you and are in a hurry), additional details as to what they will get (for logical minds) followed by CTA and testimonials (for the skeptics) with CTA and About us information like website, support information (for additional assurance and hand holding) ending with CTA. Understanding Gig Economy

The gig economy is an economy where there is no concept of a full-time employee and a fixed salary in the month-end or month starting rather than you will get paid for the service/project you are working upon. It is more viable in today’s post-pandemic era where people are looking for a specific expert in executing a task and give the money instantly after that particular task is done.

Ecommerce and Digital Marketing

Both can go hand in hand where you can open a store at Shopify or any other e-commerce platform and promote your products using digital marketing. The advantage will be you can scale your business faster. Just take the example of meesho, an Indian e-commerce platform, it has entered the prestigious unicorn(company valuation $1billion) club recently within a short span.

Virtual assistants are really important to stay on track. As a freelancer or business owner you have to perform a lot of tasks within a stipulated time frame but having a virtual assistant will make your life easier to organize things properly and execute them perfectly.

Quote <>  I am Augustine Veliath. I live to accomplish my own goals. I am obsessed with my mission.  My mission is to make you own a movement, a global movement, a world community. I do not look for problems to solve. I avoid them.

I utilize every moment of every day at 10X levels.

Welcome to the next phase, a grander mind-set, more acceleration, and more hand power.  Others are not me and they have no way of knowing my potential and  purposes.

I am lit up when I am on purpose. I commit myself to success.   That is why I seem lucky in life. Aging I believe is not ‘lost youth,’ but a new stage of opportunity and strength.

I have done a lot in life.  But what I have done so far is nothing compared to what I can do
